Moonshot Fundraiser

Support our fundraiser for Moonshot!

FemSTEM is collaborating with MoonShot (https://www.moonshot.school/) and Harvard Medical School (https://www.hmsmedscience.org/) to empower underprivileged Boston youth by providing them with the exposure and opportunities available in the field of Medical Science and Engineering. Your donations will enable FemSTEM to provide scholarship to underprivileged youth to attend the HMS Medscience Program.

FemSTEM is currently raising money to sponsor students to participate in this enriching program, and would love your support to raise money for passionate and talented students to further their skills. FemSTEM is raising funds to offer scholarships to underrepresented high schoolers so they can attend the program at Harvard Medical School.

Moonshot is an organization based out of Boston and founded by a Harvard Alum. MEDscience Moonshot offers a one-of-a-kind deep tech immersion experience for high school students interested in biomedical engineering, computer science and medicine to prototype their own AI surgical robots and solve complex medical problems. You can check out their website here.

About Moonshot

Harvard Medical School (HMS) MEDscience utilizes simulated medical emergencies to provide an immersive learning experience. They curriculum encourages critical thinking, effective communication, problem solving, and teamwork. They make learning more engaging through hands-on, student-led activities that in turn boost students’ confidence. HMS MEDscience offers semester programs with partner schools, week-long summer programs, and shorter module courses.

Program Goals:

  1. We identify learning objectives by clearly defining the goals and objectives of the course. This helps students determine how hands-on activities can enhance the learning experience.
  2. We focus on real-world problems: we design activities that allow students to apply their knowledge to real-world problems or scenarios. This helps them see the practical relevance of what they are learning and enhances their problem-solving skills.
  3. We incorporate interactive experiments or projects: we integrate hands-on experiments, projects, or simulations that encourage students to actively engage with the subject matter. This includes group work, role-playing, case studies, or even field trips.
  4. We provide tangible materials or resources: We ensure that students have access to the necessary materials and resources to perform hands-on activities effectively. This involves providing lab equipment, art supplies, technology tools, and other relevant resources.
  5. We encourage critical thinking and reflection: Prompt students to think critically about their hands-on experiences and reflect on what they have learned. This is done through discussions, journals, or presentations where they articulate their observations, challenges, and insights.
  6. We align with curriculum standards: Our courses are part of an existing curriculum, map the hands-on activities to the relevant standards or learning outcomes. This helps teachers and schools feel confident in integrating the curriculum with the hands-on components.

Hands on learning is both fun and effective in enhancing student engagement and understanding. By incorporating these strategies, we create a dynamic and enriching learning experience for our students.
